Case history:
Lando has been with his present owner since mid-August 2004.
Middle of July 2004: a bleeding crack occurred in the middle of both hind hooves and is treated by the vet with antibiotics; the cracks are closed with plastic. The plastic got loose repeatedly and had to be glued on every time.
Beginning of December 2004: the left fore lateral hoof was bleeding at the coronal wall and a small crack in the hoof appeared, both got treated with betaisodona.
Middle of December 2004: the left fore hoof got clamped and treated with jodoformether. Middle of January 2005: the left hind hoof got clamped with 2 clips because the crack continued.
End of January 2005: the crack in the left fore hoof spread upwards, so that the clip had to be fastened in a higher position in February 2005 and a second clip was added.
The two former owners of Lando report that the horse has never had hoof problems before; there once was a slight crack which disappeared soon. Meanwhile, the present owner doubts these reports. The present owner’s disappointment was the reason to inform herself and to look for more effective treatment and so she finally came to the DHG.
On the 9th of February 2005 the hoof orthopaedic treatment was started. The following pictures show the development of the hoof situation:
